Valle Monarca is a working ranch, not a hotel chain. There is no marble lobby and no dress code. What there is: real forest, honest food prepared under NOM-251, Mexico's federal food-safety standard, and the kind of welcome you get from people receiving you in their own home.

Every fall, monarchs lift off from gardens and milkweed patches across the United States and Canada and fly thousands of miles south. They finish that journey in the fir forests of central Mexico — the same forest ecosystem this ranch sits in.

Valle de Bravo is on that route. Most visitors drive out from Mexico City, see a sanctuary, and drive four hours back the same day. You don't have to.

Getting here

About 2.5 hours by car from Mexico City and roughly 1.5 hours from Toluca. Paved highway the whole way. Nearest airports: Mexico City (MEX) and Toluca (TLC). We send exact directions and a pin once your booking is confirmed.

Where you'll be

Los Saucos, just outside Valle de Bravo — a lakeside town designated a Pueblo Mágico by Mexico's tourism ministry. It's the weekend escape for Mexico City, known for sailing, paragliding and the surrounding forest.

Language & payment

We have English-speaking hosts on site, and all planning happens in English if you prefer. Quotes and payments are in Mexican pesos (MXN), with the deposit and cancellation terms in writing before you pay anything.

What to pack

This is high-altitude forest: warm days, genuinely cold nights, year-round. Bring layers, a real jacket and shoes you don't mind getting muddy. Rain is common June through September.

Food hygiene

Mexico's federal food-safety standard, roughly equivalent to a US health-department food code. Covers personal hygiene, holding temperatures, FIFO rotation, cleaning and disinfection. Kitchen staff are trained and certified in safe food handling.

How far is the ranch from Mexico City?
We're in Los Saucos, Valle de Bravo, in the State of Mexico — roughly two and a half hours by car from Mexico City and about an hour and a half from Toluca. The nearest international airport is Mexico City International (MEX); Toluca International (TLC) is closer. The drive is on paved highway the whole way, and we send exact directions once your booking is confirmed.

Do you speak English?
Yes. We have English-speaking hosts on site, and all planning — quotes, contracts and coordination — can be handled in English by phone, WhatsApp or email.

When can we see the monarch butterflies?
Monarch season runs roughly from November through March. These are the same butterflies that leave gardens across the United States and Canada each fall and travel thousands of miles to overwinter in the fir forests of central Mexico. Valle de Bravo sits on that route, so you can visit a sanctuary in the morning and sleep in the forest that night instead of driving back to the city.

How many guests can you host for a wedding?
Weddings of 60 to 150 guests, retreats of 15 to 40, camps of 30 to 80. Because the property is 27 acres of private forest, we shape the layout around the real size of your group instead of fitting you into a fixed ballroom.

Can we bring our own wedding planner and vendors?
Yes. When you rent the venue for an adult group, you hire your own vendors. We only ask that they meet the admission checklist in our Ranch Rules: current liability insurance, compliance with Mexican adventure-tourism standard NOM-011-TUR-2001 where applicable, guide certification under NOM-09-TUR-2002, and government-issued ID for the person in charge.

Quotes and payments are in Mexican pesos (MXN). Your written quote states the deposit amount, the payment schedule and the cancellation terms before you pay anything.

A deposit confirms the reservation. The amount and the cancellation terms are stated in writing in your quote before any payment, under our Terms and Conditions.
